Hypnotherapy in Menopause

HypnoMenopause® is an individualised, holistic approach to helping women navigate their own unique experience of menopause. I combine hypnotherapy with aspects of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), life coaching and mindfulness to enable you to understand your menopausal symptoms, and the impact these have on your daily life. Our work together will be guided by your symptoms, experience and goals.

  • Tools and techniques to help reduce the frequency and impact of hot flushes

  • Reduce anxiety, low mood and irritability

  • Empowering you to assess and redefine what you want out of life

  • Improve confidence, positivity of mindset and self assurance

  • Explore reframing menopause as a phase of life filled with potential, self-awareness and enjoyment

If you’re reading this page, it’s likely that you’re at some stage in the menopausal transition (or think you might be). The lead up to menopause, known as perimenopause, can last several years. Whatever stage of menopause you’re experiencing, you might be finding this time of life difficult for a variety of reasons and are wondering how the HypnoMenopause® approach can help.

For some women, this transitional phase is characterised by hot flushes and night sweats, mood swings, fatigue, aches and pains, sleep problems and a range of other symptoms which can make it harder to function. It's also a time when women may be struggling with life pressures and a shifting sense of their own identity.

Each woman’s experience of menopause is unique, and my approach is tailored to respecting this individuality. For some, the appeal of hypnotherapy may be the opportunity to manage menopausal symptoms in a completely natural way. Other women choose a multifactorial approach, benefitting from hypnotherapy alongside HRT or other medical treatments.

HypnoMenopause® combines hypnosis, mindfulness and CBT to help women manage their experience. In clinical trials, hypnotherapy has been shown to alleviate hot flushes by up to 74%, in addition to helping mood, sleep and sexual function.

Hypnomenopause® FAQ

  • The first step in our work together is a free phone consultation, during which I will answer any questions you have and establish whether HypnoMenopause® is the right approach for you.

Hypnotherapy allows you to understand what is happening on a physical and psychological level when you experience your menopausal symptoms.

You are then guided into a state of deep relaxation and focus, and using your understanding of these issues, suggestions are made for positive and sustainable change.

In addition to working with you at a hypnotherapeutic level, I’ll also help you set personal goals for the future and support you whilst you take any practical steps, from creating a better sleep routine, increasing your exercise levels, or focusing on incorporating things that bring you joy into your everyday life.

  • Whatever menopausal symptoms you are experiencing, hypnotherapy has the capacity to help. Research shows that hypnotherapy can help reduce hot flushes and night sweats by up to 74% and can help improve sleep, mood, and general wellbeing [1].

We often think of the brain and body as being separate, when, in reality, they are completely connected and constantly communicating with each other. Everything we think impacts us at a physical level (take a moment to think of something which causes you fear, and notice how your body reacts).

How you think about, and respond to, your menopausal symptoms shapes your experience. Hypnotherapy encourages a deeper connection between the mind and body, and provides a powerful way to explore, and change, our thoughts and emotions.

Most people find hypnotherapy a relaxing experience, which can help manage stress and anxiety – two issues which many women face during menopause.

  • Hypnosis is a completely natural experience which is individual for everyone. It’s similar to feeling completely absorbed or focused - a bit like the experience of daydreaming, reading a book or being absorbed in a movie. If you’re used to meditating or doing yoga, you’ll have experienced a similar state of mind.

If you’re motivated to create positive change, HypnoMenopause® can prove highly effective, no matter what level of hypnosis you achieve.

  • During your initial consultation, we can discuss your personal history, goals and individual needs. Your sessions are tailored to you, and whilst most people benefit from the full 5-session HypnoMenopause® programme, I do not believe in a ‘one-size-fits-all approach'; we will work together to ensure the appropriate number and structure of sessions that is right for you.

I am guided by your priorities , and am not just here to treat your symptoms, but to support you in navigating and embracing this potentially rewarding phase of life.

  • Absolutely! Through my GP practice I see how HRT can help many women see an improvement in menopausal symptoms and quality of life. HypnoMenopause® is a complementary approach which can work alone, or in conjunction with other medical or complementary approaches.

  • Many women experience a sense of just not being themselves during menopause, and may feel overwhelmed, lacking in confidence, anxious or low in mood.

HypnoMenopause® is designed to help with everything from mood swings, coping with mid-life career stress or empty-nest syndrome, to hot flushes and insomnia.

Hypnotherapy is a very positive, forward looking therapy which has a great track record in helping boost confidence and self-esteem. If you’re not quite sure what’s wrong, but you just don’t feel like your old self, HypnoMenopause® can help you embrace your life ahead.

  • Hypnotherapy is clinically proven to help women during menopause, and HypnoMenopause® incorporates a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach which also has a clinically proven track record in helping women during menopause [1].

As with any type of therapy, hypnotherapy isn't guaranteed to help. However, if you are genuinely motivated to create change and are open to exploring hypnotherapy, like many clients it is likely you will see an improvement in your symptoms.
